Victoria Azarenka’s call for vaccination rules to be “black and white” came as tennis legend John Alexander urged the four grand slam tournaments to adopt the same vaccination rules.

Two-time Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka has become the first member of the WTA players’ council to call for tennis’ international governing bodies to adopt a “no jab, no play rule” after the Novak Djokovic deportation fiasco.

The disparate governing bodies of tennis – the ATP, the WTA and the ITF – have so far been publicly supportive of vaccination but reluctant to require players to be inoculated against COVID-19 to compete on the professional tour. Azarenka said that unlike workers who could stay at home and socially isolate, tennis players travelling around the world carried additional risks and social responsibilities. The Sydney Morning Herald

Nadal, while unwilling to publicly call for a no-jab, no-play rule, said high levels of vaccination had dramatically improved the working and travel conditions for tennis players. “We went through bubbles for two years, very challenging conditions,” he said. “If everybody’s vaccinated, we are allowed to improve our life on the tour and most important, our life outside the tour.

“We all need to get together and work something out that is clear, so that all players know exactly where they are at. If exemptions are part of it, don’t put it in the small print, say here it is; you need to be double vaccinated or face two weeks of quarantine.
