Ajla Tomljanović wins in three sets against Ashlyn Krueger on day two of the Australian Open. Stefanos Tsitsipas suffers a surprise first-round exit.

Wildcards Ajla Tomljanović and Talia Gibson have kicked off day two of the Australian Open in style for the 12 locals in action, while Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas falls in the first round for the second straight slam. Meanwhile, defending champion Jannik Sinner and former winners Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka hit Rod Laver Arena. The tennis world is still digesting the news of Stefanos Tsitsipas's first-round exit at Melbourne Park.

Tsitsipas cut a forlorn figure when fronted up for his media conference following his four-set loss to lanky American Alex Michelsen. Seeded 11th at the Open, Tsitsipas gave an interesting insight into how he felt the men's game had developed since he joined the tour. The game has shifted more towards a physical game. I feel like the margins become smaller, meaning that you're not getting as many free points. I feel like innovation has stepped in and allowed players to serve even bigger than before. I definitely put emphasis on that. When I played years ago, I felt like it was less powerful in general, the game. It was still physical, but it was not as big as it is now. So, I do feel like power has taken over, meaning that everyone can hit hard now. You just have to be precise as well. Combine those two and you have the ultimate player. Despite his upset loss, Tsitspas believes he's a more rounded player than he was when he first reached the AO semis in 2019.So even though I'm losing now and I'm not at my best, I feel like I'm much better as a player than back then where I felt like my shots were not as heavy in terms of topspin. Games are on serve in the opening set of defending champion Jannik Sinner's first-round match against Nicolás Jarry.Duckworth has done a good job at managing the crowd and engaging with them enough to maintain his energy.Tiafoe led 5-2 in the fourth and just needed to serve out the match after securing two breaks, but the 17th seed had a lapse of concentration late in the set, giving up three consecutive games. Not long after, Tiafoe called for medical attention after vomiting. The Frenchman was then able to force a tiebreak, prevailing 7-6(4) in a little over an hour.Rinky HijikataCertainly her goal this tournament would be to disrupt Aryna Sabalenka's supremacy on this surface and win her first slam outside of Roland-Garros since 2024.She suffered a surprise third-round exit at Melbourne Park last year, ousted by young Czech talent Linda Noskova. Also, just to keep you up to date, we also have fellow Aussie James Mccabe playing Martin Landaluce on Court 6. It's currently on serve, 3-3. 31-year-old Australian Ajla Tomljanović defeated world number 51 Ashlyn Krueger in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. It was the second time they've played this week after they met at the Adelaide Oval - except that time the American won. 'I thought I played against a really tricky player and having lost to her last week it felt really sweet to come out and play her again and win,' Tomljanović said post-win.She said she thought she wasn't aggressive enough earlier in the match but went into the deciding set bullish on needing to be more assertive on the court and try and dictate points.'This is probably the place I get the most excited and the most nervous so to come and get the win, really no better feeling,' she said.Jarry, who is ranked 34th in the world, reached a career-high position of 16th in May last year. Sinner had a breakthrough year in 2024, winning two grand slam titles. Unlike the Italian, Jarry had a lukewarm 2024 season, ending it with a 21-24 win/loss record. He exited all four grand slams in the first round. This match promises to be a heavy-hitting duel from the baseline, with Sinner and Jarry in a tug-of-war for court position.Neither player looked confident in the final set as Tomljanovic, even up by 4-0 at one stage, looked unsteady in being able to close out the match. Krueger came fighting back to win four games but Tomljanovic was able to serve out the match, with relief and joy washing over her face after claiming the final and all-important point.Over on Court 5, we've had a big upset with another seeded player in the tournament exiting after a first round loss.Tabilo was able to take the fourth set to a tiebreak, grasping at hope for pushing it to a fifth deciding set, but ultimately fell short 6-1, 2-6, 3-6, 6-7 (1-7) to Spaniardis the first seeded player to be knocked out of this year's Australian Open, losing a four-set classic toIt's the second straight first-round exit at a grand slam for Tsitsipas, the 11th seed in Melbourne, after going down to Thanasi Kokkinakis in last year's US Open.'I knew it was going to be a battl
