World number one Jannik Sinner has defended his Australian Open title at Melbourne Park , defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets — 6-3, 7-6 , 6-3.
Sinner came out with force and took the opening set in 46 minutes after breaking Zverev in the eighth game. He was then pushed to a tiebreak in the second set, winning the last four points to take momentum into third, which he confidently claimed after getting another early break. Before the post-match presentations, Sinner consoled a crying Zverev, who said he hoped to be more of a competitor in the final, but Sinner was simply "just too good".
