Following criticism from top players like Cameron Smith, Golf Australia has decided to separate the men's and women's Australian Open tournaments starting in 2025. The mixed format, introduced in 2021, faced backlash for impacting the tournament's integrity and prestige.

"Following our annual event review, which included discussions with key stakeholders, Golf Australia has made the decision to separate the Australian Open men's and women's tournaments," a statement printed by Australian Golf Digest read. "Unfortunately, they've butchered that event and they've got a long road to get it back to where it should be."It's frustrating that they used it as an experiment."
"It needs to be firm and fast and the best player needs to win. I'm not sure if that has been the case."Smith's fellow LIV pro Matt Jones said he felt that the "men's Australian Open should be a standalone event." "This move aligns to our strategy and will allow flexibility to better adapt to the ever-changing landscape in world golf.
