The cost of an Australian passport will increase again in 2025, making it the world's most expensive passport. The 10-year passport is expected to cost $412, a $14 increase from the current price. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) attributed the increase to legislation and the Consumer Price Index.

If you think the second increase in the cost of an Australia n passport in 2024 will exempt it from the annual rise in 2025, think again – the world’s most expensive passport is set to rise in price again. The cost of a 10-year Australia n passport will rise from $398 to $412 on the first day of 2025, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

This means Australians are expected to pay an additional $14 to renew their passport in 2025, despite it already being the most expensive passport in the world. It has a high level of technological sophistication, backed by rigorous anti-fraud measures, which ensures its integrity. This is a key reason why Australian passport holders receive visa-free access to over 180 countries,” the spokesperson said, echoing a statement made in 2023. What will Australian passport fees be in 2025? Two fee hikes in 2024 This upcoming price hike follows the 15 percent increase in July, which raised the standard fee from $346 to $398, as part of a one-off revenue-raising measure by the federal government. Treasurer Jim Chalmers said the increase was expected to raise $349 million over the next three years, with the additional revenue used to cover the rising costs of producing passports. This move pushed Australia from second to first place on the world’s most expensive passport list, ahead of Mexico at the equivalent of $346 AUD and the United States at $252 AUD. That was the second fee increase in 2024, following the first one at the start of the year, which raised the fee from $325 in 2023 to $346. Singaporean passports, renowned as the world’s most powerful with access to 193 countries, cost S$70 (about $83) for a 10-year validity perio
