Queensland researchers have repurposed a decades-old drug in a breakthrough hoped to bring potential relief and a new treatment option to arthritis sufferers. 9News
In some cases, Australians suffering viral arthritis can already access the drug by applying through the Special Access Scheme set up by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, possible with a referral from a GP.
"It is only for those where there is no other drugs available or the patient has exhausted all the drugs that are out there," Herrero said.Australian researchers are also involved in an international Rheumatoid Arthritis study, trialling another drug that targets the immune system to limit inflammation.
