Twenty Australian sports organizations proclaimed their backing of a referendum to constitutionally recognize Indigenous people, as the country marked ‘Sorry Day’ when it acknowledges years of injustices to Aboriginal people

Former sportspeople including cricketer Jason Gillespie, footballer Jade North and netballer Catherine Cox read out a statement in support of the referendum, boosting the "Yes" campaign, after some polls showed the lead tightening for them. While a majority of Indigenous people support the Voice, some argue it is a distraction from achieving practical changes and it would not fully resolve problems affecting the community.
