Australian swimming legend James Magnussen has finally proposed to his longtime partner Rose McEvoy. Magnussen, who has been working at the Olympics, is now taking a break in Croatia, where he decided the time was right to pop the question to the former Miss Universe Australia. The Olympic silver medallist and former world champ shared a video of his emotional proposal to his followers on Instagram.

He is set to begin a drug-taking program designed to make him the fastest swimmer ever in the 50-metre freestyle event and, in the process, pocket $1.5 million if he achieves that goal. “I have kept myself in reasonable shape in retirement,” Magnussen said when he confirmed the news at the time. “They have said they have a billion-dollar person backing them. “If they put up a million dollars for the 50 freestyle world record, I will come on board as their first athlete.
