Sky News host Chris Smith says Australians “deserve to be told the detail” about the proposed Indigenous Voice to Parliament with the Labor government planning to hold a referendum as early as next year.
“In this Weekend’s Australian, Mark Leibler, who co-chaired the Expert Panel and the Referendum Council on Constitutional Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, wrote that a more detailed model would only lead to a devastating ‘no’ vote,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith said according to Mr Leibler, those who argue otherwise “only want to sabotage the process”. “So if we want to know what it’s all about, we deliberately don’t want it? How do we know if we want it if we don’t know what it is?” Mr Smith said. “Surely we’ve got to know what we’re voting for. And if the reason we can’t have any detail is because detail may twist the result against the affirmative, well sorry, that’s not on.”
