Australians get ‘truly extraordinary’ support from Sri Lankan fans | Peter_Fitz

There was a lovely moment in cricket last week that has not received sufficient attention. During the fifth ODI between Australia and Sri Lanka last Friday, the Sri Lankan crowd wore yellow t-shirts and jerseys to thank the Australian team for touring the country even while Sri Lanka itself is in the midst of a shocking economic and humanitarian crisis so bad it threatens the stability of the country.

Not that you care, but I am one of them. The BBL? Please. I had a brief look early, but have long ago lost interest. And clearly, so has much of Australia. “Today I gave all I could do, you know, today. Maybe tomorrow I could have gave more. Maybe a week ago I could have gave more. But today was what I could do. At some point, you have to be able to be OK with that.” “Today, enjoy it, watch it back, I hope you all watch my highlights and write about that. I’m one of the most important people in the sport, you want to investigate that? Nothing to investigate there, it’s just factual.”“I’m really proud of Burto; he’s an exceptional player and an exceptional person, and he deserves this.
