Independent MP Zali Steggall says Australians “have a responsibility” to participate in the Voice referendum. The Voice to Parliament referendum will be held on the 14th of October 2023. “There has been a lot of misinformation and disinformation that has been platformed,” Ms Steggall told Sky News Australia. “It’s not often Australians get tapped on the shoulder to write the next chapter of Australia’s history. “We all have a responsibility to participate and to find out the details.”

‘If you can’t find it in your heart, find it in your head’: Jason Clare on the Voice referendum‘If you can’t find it in your heart, find it in your head’: Jason Clare on the Voice referendumEducation Minister Jason Clare says the idea of a Voice referendum came from Indigenous people asking Australians to work with them. “This is not a Labor idea; this is not a Liberal idea; this is the idea of Indigenous Australians asking us to work with them, asking us to listen, holding out their hand.” Mr Clare told Sky News Australia. “Australians have got a choice in the next few weeks to shake that hand or to slap it away.' Mr Clare encouraged Australians to find it in their head to vote for the Voice referendum if they couldn’t find it in their heart. “If you’re a young Indigenous bloke today, you’re more likely to go to jail than to university, and it costs taxpayers $11,000 a year to send a young Australian to university; it costs taxpayers $148,000 a year to send that same Australian to jail, 13 times as much.”

People should disagree with Voice without fear of being labelled ‘racist’: Erin MolanPeople should disagree with Voice without fear of being labelled ‘racist’: Erin MolanSky News host Erin Molan says voting against the Voice to Parliament does not mean you do not care about issues affecting Indigenous Australians. Ms Molan recalled a conversation she had with a friend who was scared to tell people she was voting ‘No’ for fear of being labelled a racist. “Let's not allow BS and tactics, from both sides to be honest, to distract from what this actually is – not a question of whether or not you care, but a proposal on how to fix the problem,” she said. “Not thinking it's the right one doesn't mean you don't care, and feeling the need to hide that from others for fear of being labelled a racist or worse is a sad indictment of a society who should be able to disagree and debate. “Particularly on issues of critical importance, of which the welfare of Indigenous Australians is and absolutely should be.” Australians will cast their vote at the ballot box for the Voice referendum on October 14, which the polls suggest could be heading for defeat.
