As travellers return to the Land of the Gods, new hotels have opened and business owners are pinning their hopes on a speedy recovery.
That’s my overriding impression flying over the coastline on March 14’s first Jetstar flight from Australia to Denpasar in two years.
Prior to Bali reopening to tourism in March, it had been 24 months since any foreigners could visit Indonesia’s top destination. On the upside, it’s blissfully easy to get a dinner reservation, albeit incoming tourist traffic is now picking up, much to the relief of Bali’s residents. Back in March, travellers faced a number of restrictions on arrival in Bali that have since been eased.
Children under six are not required to be vaccinated to enter Indonesia, however partially vaccinated six- to 17-year-olds may be required to complete vaccinations by local authorities. Walking through Seminyak – Bali’s main commercial hub – on my final afternoon, I meet one of the thousands of small business owners who are hoping that things will return to normal as quickly as possible.
