Award-winning author and playwright Maura Pierlot is leaving books on benches around Canberra to connect people and spark conversations. And for ACT Children's Week, she's sharing kids books to bring joy to young readers.
Next time you visit your local shops or take a stroll through a park in Canberra, you may just happen across a book sitting on a bench. Each week, award-winning author and playwright Maura Pierlot visits a different Canberra suburb and leaves books on the benches she walks past.
She shares on her social media ahead of time which suburb she is heading to and then, as a bit of a guessing game, some photos of the books in situ. "The arts are really fundamental to our wellbeing. They can help us tap into an inner core of who we are and how we connect to each other," she said.Ms Pierlot views benches and books as conversation starters and she hopes her project encourages people to chat with others.
Her most recent book, What will you make today?, invites children to explore the many ways they can make a difference in the world.
