The wife of a paddleboarder seriously injured by a boat propeller at Currumbin Alley wants more signage warning of potential danger at popular surf breaks.

Paddleboarder Onno van Es is recovering after getting caught in the propeller of a boat a fortnight ago.Mr van Es's wife is calling for more safety information at the break to warn water users of its danger. The shallow estuary of the creek is a gateway to offshore fishing grounds while gentle waves often roll along the sand-bottomed point break.

"Someone should be held accountable for the lack of information about these shared waterways. There needs to be more awareness," she said.In May 2011, surfer Richard James King was killed when a boat collided with him as he paddled across the Currumbin Bar.A coronial inquest heard the boat's skipper had more than 25 years of experience in boating and crossing coastal bars.

He witnessed Mr van Es's injury and is worried someone else will be killed as crowds at the popular surf spot grow."The very nature of Currumbin means surfers or other water users have very little space to cross the bar or undertake their surfing," Mr Brooks said.
