Fans can get their first look at AvatarTheLastAirbender's new Zuko and Iroh (albeit not in costume) in a new behind the scenes picture.
Zuko and Iroh are united in a new behind the scenes picture for Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender, which finds Dallas Liu and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee hanging together after a long week's work. After years of little progress, Netflix's live-action Avatar is charging full steam ahead. The series first went into development in 2018. The next few years brought little to no progress, save for the exit of the show's original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.
Since then, though, things have turned around. Under the direction of showrunner Albert Kim, Avatar: The Last Airbender filled out its cast list last year and kicked off production. In its original animated form, Avatar revolves around the adventures of 12-year-old Aang, a bright-eyed boy who stands as his world's only hope for peace. Newcomer Gordon Cormier will play Aang for Netflix's Avatar, which is said to be a reimagining of the beloved Nickelodeon show.
It might be presumptuous to already have favorites when it comes to Avatar, but as the series is based on a well-known property, many fans are going into this already hyped about certain characters and relationships. Zuko and Iroh have one of the most beloved dynamics in the entire Avatar universe, with Uncle Iroh taking on a fatherly role throughout Zuko's arc. Seeing Liu and Lee together - the new Zuko and Iroh - instantly inspires excitement.
Lee's casting as Iroh received the warmest response from fans by far, and it's sweet to see how excited he is to bring the Avatar character to life. Lee also made sure to give a shoutout to The Last Airbender's other major Fire Nation figures: Daniel Dae Kim and Ken Leung . While they didn't make it to the lowkey Avatar hangout, it hopefully won't be long before audiences get to see every single one of these actors in full costume for the series.
