The Lake District in the summer doesn't have to mean packed crowds 👀

Nowadays children 'need' to be entertained at all times, this could be by electronic devices or even the TV.

Knowing I had to be organised we got to work. We packed-up food for dinner and snacks and drinks knowing that these would be a huge outlay during the day. They were picking up water skaters and other creepy crawlies and could help but be thrilled at what they were finding. That was until they unearthed a newt, the squeals of excitement almost burst my eardrums. At this point the target had been set and they all wanted to catch a newt.

What was really special was we managed to see a woodpecker in real life which none of us had seen before although it flew off before we could grab a picture. By the time we had finished our adventure, it was easy to say we could have spent much longer exploring than we had time for. Now it was a little cold but this did not bother them one bit. I was huddled up at a picnic bench trying to keep warm. but they loved it.

We made our way to Maryport, I'd looked at going to the aquarium but for a family our size it worked out expensive. But they have an epic park which is free for all to use. Also, you're able to visit the lifeboat station for a tour which is free.
