On June 1, the lithium hopeful authorised a $US1 million cash payment to a Congo operative for help obtaining a mining licence, before its spooked board engaged DLA Piper.
An Australian lithium hopeful authorised a $US1 million cash payment to a Congolese middleman last year as it frantically sought approval to mine in the country.
Mr Ferguson had earlier proposed to pay the DRC businessman an additional success cash bonus of $US3 million and $US2 million in AVZ shares if he helped the company secure a mining licence for the tenement in which it claims a 75 per cent ownership interest. On June 12, DLA Piper provided AVZ’s board with Veracity’s interim report into Mr Mihigo, which described him as “well-connected” and likely able to facilitate access to high levels of government. However, the report also suggested Mr Mihigo may no longer enjoy much influence over DRC President Felix Tshisekedi.
