An award-winning Indigenous aged care program is in a funding battle with the Federal Government, and could close before Christmas.

Care recipient Uncle Black has been a part of the program since it began and said it had been a lifesaver."There was so much I could do but I can't do anymore — simple, little things, daily."In the last six months, the program has picked up two national aged care awards.

Carer Narelle Welsh said Booraja was about more than just aged care, because it facilitates a rich cultural exchange. No guarantee in place, Government says "If this Liberal Government doesn't put its hand in its pocket and refund the program then Aboriginal people will go back to feeling dejected again."It will be a loss of an employment opportunity for an area that has very small labour market prospects for our young Aboriginal people."
