NSW Trade Minister Stuart Ayres has been interviewed as part of the independent inquiry into the controversial appointment of John Barilaro to a plum New York role.

“But I also make the point, as Mr Barilaro has pointed out, that people get pushed and pushed and pushed.

Stuart Ayres heads to India on Tuesday for more trade meetings after opening a new Investment NSW office in Singapore.Ayres, who was in Singapore on Monday at the opening of a NSW trade office in the city-state, said he had been interviewed last week by former NSW Public Commissioner Graeme Head, who is conducting the independent investigation into the recruitment process for the trade role in New York. A separate parliamentary inquiry into the process is being undertaken in the upper house.

“It deliberately leaked in-camera evidence of the Secretary of the Department of Enterprise and Trade [Amy Brown] in the most egregious breach of parliamentary privilege I’ve seen in my entire time in parliament. “Minister Ayres has serious questions to answer. So if it’s possible that we can effectively bring an end to the Barilaro part of the inquiry first, we will, because we’re eager to get on to Minister Ayres’ involvement.”
