San Diego State punter/kicker hurt his left (non-kicking) leg last week against Fresno State when he was tackled while running on a fake punt
San Diego State has benefited from punter/kicker Jack Browning’s athleticism on two occasions this season on fake punts.
SDSU scored later on the drive, but backup kicker Jarrett Reeser was used to kick the successful extra point. Browning seemed unaffected while punting when he was observed earlier this week booting practice punts.The situation is more problematic for kickoffs and place-kicks because the left leg is the plant leg, absorbing the full weight and force of the body as the right leg swings through on the kick.
If Browning is not deemed fit for kickoff and/or place-kicks, then Reeser is the backup for both specialties. Senior Cedarious Barfield started in place of Baskerville against Fresno State, recording five tackles against the Bulldogs.• Hoke said sophomore running back Jaylon Armstead is closing in on 100 percent in his recovery from a right ankle injury in Week 4 against Toledo, although Armstead still appeared to be favoring the ankle somewhat in practice.The Aztecs are a game behind Fresno State and San Jose State in the West Division standings.
In three games, Mayden has passed for 769 yards. That’s an average of 256.3 yards a game, which would rank 51st in the nation, between Nebraska and Middle Tennessee .
