The state’s safety cameras have pinged over 11,000 NSW motorists breaking the law within less than a month. Babies laying unrestrained on the laps of front seat passengers were just some of the concerning scenes captured by safety cameras.

Thousands of drivers caught doing the wrong thing by safety cameras on NSW roads. There were 11,400 offences snapped, with fines totalling $4.7 million, within just 21 days. Roads minister John Graham said the extent of the breaches “comes as a shock”. Penalties for seatbelt offences start at a $410 fine and three demerit points. “If this stays at this level, 100,000 people will be fined by the end of the year,” Graham said.
