Queensland Police have declared a crime scene after an infant was found dead in a home on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the Bela by Mosaic residence on Peerless Avenue, Mermaid Beach just after 8am.Police officers and paramedics were parked onsite as a crime scene was established.

A forensic officer was seen removing empty evidence bags and other equipment from a truck before heading into the building. Resident Lachlan Thompson, who lives in a unit complex across from the apartment building where the baby was found, spoke to The Gold Coast Bulletin about the"commotion" at the scene."It's concerning something like that is happening in such a busy area."
