In an act that enraged the parents of the victims, Lucy Letby refused to attend the sentencing at Manchester Crown Court where she received the most severe punishment available in the UK justice system.

British nurse Lucy Letby, the most prolific child serial killer in modern UK history, has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of release.

He told the court that Letby had shown “premeditation, calculation and cunning”, telling her: “You will spend the rest of your life in prison”, he said, adding he would ensure a transcript of his remarks was sent to her. Another statement that was read out to the court, from the mother of a baby known as Child I, said she would no longer leave her children in a hospital following her daughter’s death.

Police are now reviewing all 4000 admissions to neonatal units at the Countess of Chester, where the nurse worked between January 2012 and June 2016, and at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, where she completed placements.
