Fiona Harvey has filed a lawsuit against the streaming giant over the hit show - but a motion quotes creator Richard Gadd that it is a 'fictionalised retelling' of their encounters.
Netflix has asked a judge to throw out a lawsuit filed by Fiona Harvey, the woman who claims to be the 'real life Martha' from Baby Reindeer.
Gadd said Harvey visited him constantly at London's Hawley Arms bar where he worked and sent him "thousands of emails, hundreds of voicemails, and a number of handwritten letters", some of which were sexually explicit or threatening."It is not a documentary or an attempt at realism," Gadd said.
The court papers say that "well before the series was released", Harvey was publicly accused of stalking and harassing Scottish attorney Laura Wray, wife of late Labour Party Member of Parliament Jimmy Wray, and politician Donald Dewar, the inaugural First Minister of Scotland. "The series never mentions Harvey. Harvey became news only after she proclaimed she was the supposed inspiration for the Martha character. In April, Harvey came forward to say she was the real life 'Martha' depicted in Baby Reindeer. She revealed she had received death threats as a result of the TV show and insisted she had never been to prison.
