Opinion: Back him or sack him, but Rugby Australia must reject Rennie’s contract games | geerob
Under no circumstances can Rugby Australia offer Dave Rennie a contract extension at the end of this year.
No matter the cyclical nature of the international coaching market, or Rennie’s statement last month thatDave Rennie remains popular among Wallabies players. It would be offensive to Wallabies fans, many of whom were incensed less by Saturday’s loss than their perception Rennie had disrespected an Italy team on the rise by making 11 changes to the side that lost by one point to France. In their view, Rennie reaped what he sowed.
It is obvious he has placed a higher priority on winning the France and Ireland games and perhaps the Wales Test, given the Wallabies will play them in the pool rounds of the World Cup. That strategy will never wash with some fans, for whom Test rugby carries an obligation to roll out the best 15 players on every occasion.

‘Big political victory for Ukraine’: Ukrainian soldiers take back KhersonUkraine’s Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnychenko says Ukrainian soldiers taking back the city of Kherson from Russian forces is a “big political victory for Ukraine”. Mr Myroshnychenko says this is because the centre of the region was the “only centre that Russia has been able to occupy since they invaded us back in February”. “And also, what is important Russia has announced that this territory is not part of Russia,” Mr Myroshnychenko told Sky news Australia. “So, this is huge significance for Ukraine, for Ukraine’s moral, for Ukrainian troops and it’s a big defeat for Putin and his troops on the ground.”
