has been handed a £3.95 billion contract to build the next generation of nuclear-powered submarines as part of the AUKUS security pact with Australia and the US.
The defence giant said it will support thousands of jobs at plants in Barrow-in-Furness and Raynesway, Derby. BAE chief executive Charles Woodburn said: “We’re incredibly proud of our role in the delivery of this vitally important, tri-national submarine programme. Babcock, headed by CEO David Lockwood, has been awarded a five-year contract for detailed design work on the submarines.
