Bread Week challenged the bakers to make pizza, pastries, and smörgåstårtas, but who came out on top?
Bread Week is the wheelhouse of horror of oneThis week, the bakers had to make pizzas, pastries, and savoury celebration “cakes” made out of bread , at the whim of the so-called “Priest of Yeast”. The Bakers proved themselves admirably , and while Janusz was rightfully crowned Star Baker for the second week out of three, nobody was sent home from the nicest competition on television.
Pizza, this week’s signature bake, occupies this grey area for me, because while there is obviously a bread element, and Paul and Prue were stringent in checking underside of the dough for a decent bake, the contestants were judged also on their fillings and toppings, which feels like it’s more in the cooking camp.
In terms of the standings post-signature, Sandro was an inch away from a Handshake with his BBQ inspired ‘za, while Dawn’s frankly ill-advised Tex Mex pizza, not a great idea to begin with, let’s face it, was decimated by Prue as “bland”.Putting the “pain” in “pain au raisin” was this week’s technical challenge, which required the bakers to make an identical set of the French pastries.
