It is understood Wagner has suffered between 20,000 and 30,000 casualties in the fighting around the eastern Ukrainian city, with about one in three killed.

“Given the right force ratio, the correct training, the manoeuvre elements that the Ukrainians are developing, I don’t see why they couldn’t be successful in mounting a counter offensive wherever they choose to.” “The death rates of Wagner have been significantly higher than of the Russian Armed Forces,” said the Western official. “Bakhmut has not been successful for the Russians. They’ve been grinding away for six months now.
