Microsoft has allowed Larian to remove the split-screen option from Baldur’s Gate 3 on the Xbox Series S, paving the way to a 2023 release.
The problem had been that developer Larian Studios couldn’t get the split-screen mode working on the Xbox Series S, even after Microsoft tried to help, but according to Microsoft’s rules they couldn’t just leave it out, because it had to have the same features on both Xbox Series X and S., but Spencer has met with Larian and agreed to let them skip the option on Xbox Series S – although there’s still no release date just yet.
‘Super happy to confirm that after meeting [Phil Spencer] yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time,’ wrote Larian’s Swen Vincke on Twitter. ‘All improvements will be there, with split-screen coop on Series X. Series S will not feature split-screen coop but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.’
