Matthew Norman, the youngest member of the Bali Nine drug smuggling ring, arrived in Melbourne after serving 19 years in an Indonesian prison. He was welcomed by loved ones and will begin his new life in Torquay, Victoria.
The youngest member of the Bali Nine convicted drug mules, Matthew Norman, has returned to Melbourne after serving 19 years in prison in Bali. Cameras captured Norman, now 38, walking through Melbourne Airport as he headed to start a new life in Torquay. While Sunrise reporter Andrew McCormack asked Norman several questions, he remained silent. Norman was 18 when convicted of drug trafficking in Indonesia. He is now married and was met by his father and other loved ones upon his arrival.
He will reside in Torquay on Victoria's Surf Coast thanks to a connection with a local Christian group. Si Yi Chen, another Bali Nine member, was also on the same flight. Emotional reunions also took place at Brisbane Airport as fellow Bali Nine member Michael Czugaj reunited with his family. These five Bali Nine members now begin to rebuild their lives after nearly two decades behind bars in Indonesia.
