Software developers, DevOps and user experience (UX) skills are in the most demand in banks, says Robert Walters.

Annual salaries demanded by IT workers specialising in software development, DevOps and user experience design in the financial services sector have risen by 10 to 17 per cent over the past six months, according to global recruiter Robert Walters.

Senior DevOps engineers, who help companies increase the speed of development of applications and services, had been seeking $150,000 to $200,000 in January but are now seeking $160,000 to $220,000, 10 per cent higher at the top end. Full stack engineers were seeking $140,000 to $180,000 at the start of the calendar year, but this band has now shifted to $160,000 to $210,000, a rise of 17 per cent. Data scientists working in fintech and financial services more broadly, who had been on $120,000 to $150,000, are now seeking $130,000 to $165,000, Robert Walters said.Banks are competing with about 600 specialist fintech firms in Australia for similar workers.
