Huawei Australia has launched an extraordinary attack on the Australia government, insisting the nation risks being years behind Asia and Europe if it does not allow the company to participate in the 5G rollout.

The Chinese telco was banned from the 5G rollout in 2018 over national security concerns.

Huawei’s Director of Corporate and Public Affairs Jeremy Mitchell brushed aside the concerns and told Sky News the decision to ban the company would cost Australian carriers millions. “Australian carriers are going to pay 300 million each year more than our counterparts in say UK and Europe and across Asia because Australia has banned companies like Huawei from providing it," he said.
