Barack Obama has finally publicly endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democrats' presidential candidate, several days after outgoing US President Joe Biden announced he was withdrawing from the race and endorsed her.

Mr Obama, the 44th president, also vowed that he and his wife would"do everything we can" to see Ms Harris become the first female president of the United States. The comments were accompanied by a video which was said to show Ms Harris receiving the phone call from the Obamas, who did not appear on camera.

The Vice-President replied:"Oh my goodness, Michelle, Barack, this means so much to me. I am looking forward to doing this with the two of you, Doug and I both, and getting out there, being on the road.
