The hot and dry weather will continue this week

Barbecues in parks and open spaces across Nottingham have been banned following a spate of incidents that have "stretched" the fire service over the summer. The warning from Nottingham City Council comes after the county's firefighters have been out attending numerous incidents, many prompted by the heat and dry weather.

The severe heat and warm, arid weather experienced over the past few weeks have caused grassy areas such as parks to become very dry. This has only been made worse with the arrival of record temperatures up to 40C. As such, the city council has banned barbecues in its parks, including Colwick Country Park. The city council says: "We’re banning barbecues in all our parks and open spaces, including Colwick Country Park, to avoid increasing any risk of fire in the dry spell. We want to support Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue who continue to have their services stretched by the conditions."Signage is now in place advising residents.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service added: "If you’re out and about, please look out for signs, be considerate and careful and follow the rules. This way it will prevent fires from happening during the nice weather."
