The Barberton Herald published its last newspaper on Thursday, after serving the Barberton and Norton communities for a century, the publication announced Wednesday.
BARBERTON, Ohio – titled “Goodbye and Thank You,” Herald Publisher Cheryl Vespoint cited a decrease in the paper’s advertising revenue caused by pandemic business closures and expense reductions. During that same time, costs increased dramatically.
“Making this decision has been one of the hardest decisions in my life,” Vespoint said in the statement. “I can barely speak about it without getting a lump in my throat. There is no way I can thank everyone who supported us for so many years.”conducted by Penny Abernathy, a professor at the University of North Carolina’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
