NSW Opposition Leader Chris Minns says it took “two weeks of media pressure” for John Barilaro to withdraw his application for the position as the state’s trade commissioner to New York.

Mr Minns said taxpayers need to know how he earned the position “without significant media and opposition interest”.

“If the government is going to behave like this after 12 years in office, goodness knows what they’ll get up to if they are re-elected and are in for 16 years,” he told Sky News Australia. “We need to protect taxpayer money, there needs to be integrity in the process and I’m fearful that’s not happening with the Barilaro saga.”
