NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has hinted the state's regional lockdown could be extended - flagging the government will make the decision 'sooner rather than later'.

Mr Barilaro was pressed by reporters on Wednesday about suggestions the lockdown - which is currently slated to end on August 28 - may be extended to the end of September in line with Greater Sydney.

“But as you can see in the numbers today the central west isn’t getting better, the far west isn’t getting better. Mr Barilaro also added southern NSW was facing increased pressure from the ACT, which reported its highest daily caseload on Tuesday - recording 30 new infections. “We’ll look at all that, we’ll take the advice from Dr Kerry Chant and her team and the crisis committee and we’ll make that decision.
