Professor Marcia Langton has launched a stunning attack on critics of the Voice to Parliament amid a slump in the polls ahead of the referendum.
The prominent Yes campaigner, and key Voice architect, sought to link the arguments outlined by the No side to “base racism”, while speaking in Western Australia.
The comments come after new polling reveals that the Voice is likely to fall short of the double majority required on October 14. Professor Langton also said she has not heard a viable alternative to address the plight of Indigenous people, from opponents of the proposal. In Question Time on Tuesday, Deputy Liberal leader Sussan Ley called on Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney to condemn Ms Langton’s comments. “Because we know that listening leads to better results. Of course, there is no room for racism of any kind in this country.”
