Wildcard Brodie Kostecki had the worst possible start to his dream Bathurst 1000 drive when his helmet filled with carbon dioxide. 9News

Wildcard Brodie Kostecki had the worst possible start to his dream Bathurst 1000 drive when his helmet filled with carbon dioxide. The Dunlop Super2 series driver was doing the formation lap for his family's team at Mt Panorama when things went wrong.

Kostecki's helmet fan began to feed CO2, from the dry ice in his cool suit system, rather than air and he was forced to stop his Holden. Track marshals assisted Kostecki from his vehicle. The Boost Mobile car was taken to the garage and Kostecki received medical treatment. Supercars were willing to offer special dispensation to the team if Brodie was deemed unable to race. His cousin, Jake Kostecki, is the co-driver and Jake's brother, Kurt, was on standby to replace Brodie. Yet Brodie was cleared to race and opted to continue for his team. He described his pre-race hiccup as "scary"."I'm pretty much back to 100 per cent now," he told FOX Sports. "It was a bit scary in the car, I just went to flick my helmet air on and the cool suit wasn't connected up properly inside the box. I was just breathing in all the dry ice. "It was a bit of a scary feeling, but as soon as I jumped out of the car and started breathing some of that Bathurst air, I was back to it.The start of the race was delayed by the incident and another formation lap was completed before action began.
