There's been a surge in potentially deadly 'hot loads' where batteries or flammables spark an explosion inside garbage trucks.
Garbage trucks are having to dump loads of flaming rubbish onto suburban streets because of explosions caused by hazardous waste in household bins, according to Brisbane City Council.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said these types of fires and explosions were becoming "concerningly frequent", with 43 hot loads in the past five years.Disposable vapes are causing a spike in fires at recycling plants with industry experts saying they're battling at least five fires a day in Queensland alone and an increasing risk in other states due to lithium-ion batteries.
