The share of respondents believing the Bay Area is on the 'wrong track' has never been higher.

Survey respondents were asked the question,"Do you feel things in the Bay Area are going in the right direction or do you feel things have gotten pretty seriously off on the wrong track?" Sixty-four percent replied with the"wrong track," 21% replied with"right direction" and 15% said they didn't know.

The survey has been conducted every year since 2014, and the share of respondents selecting"wrong track" has never been higher. The previous high was 57% in 2019, but that number fell to 54% in 2020 and 50% in 2021. The last time there were more responses for"right direction" than"wrong track" was 2015, when 55% of residents chose the former option, compared to 28% who chose the latter.

The top concerns for residents are homelessness, housing and crime/safety, in that order. Just 2% of respondents listed the COVID-19 pandemic as their top concern.
