The Disney+ show marks Ahsoka Tano's live-action adventure as she sets out to foil the potential return of Grand Admiral Thrawn . While the series features several established Star Wars characters, it also introduces several original characters, including Baylan.
With a Screen Rant's Rob Keyes at Destination D23, props master Josh Roth explained how Stevenson played a role in Baylan's uniquely designed lightsaber. Roth described how he and film artist Doug Chiang created the initial lightsaber designs. However, when Stevenson saw the initial design for Baylan's lightsaber, he suggested changing the pommel, which is the knob at the end of the lightsaber's hilt.
One of the best things I get to do is show the actors the saber and watch their faces when we light it and ignite it for the first time; the joy on their faces—unbelievable. Ray wanted to do something very special to his [initial lightsaber design], and he wanted to change the pommel. And we changed the pommel by working with both Doug [Chiang] and Dave [Filoni], and we were able to implement a creative choice that Ray had, and, for me now, this makes it a very special saber.
Baylan's Lightsaber Is Unlike Any Other Seen In Star Wars It is very touching that it's not just Stevenson's acting talent that's on display in Ahsoka but that his creative influence in Baylan can also be seen. Meanwhile, his influence on the lightsaber's design is interesting because Baylan ended up with one of the most unusual lightsabers in Star Wars history. The first aspect that viewers noticed about the lightsaber was that it boasted a unique color.
Baylan's lightsaber also boasts a much longer hilt than the majority of lightsabers in the Star Wars universe. Meanwhile, the complex secondary antagonist is usually seen gripping the long handle with both hands, which could be an indicator of his lightsaber's unusual length and weight.
