BBC will learn lessons from this, says Davie - but has trust been eroded?
He said that lessons would be learned and the BBC would assess whether its protocols and procedures are appropriate in light of the case. The organisation had previously been trying to assess the"serious complaint", he said, adding the BBC has been acting"judiciously" and"properly" throughout. Speaking to reporters, Tim Davie said the Metropolitan Police made the request while officers"scope future work".
"The assessment made was that on the basis of the information provided it did not include an allegation of criminality, but nonetheless merited further investigation," it said in a statement.
