An inmate at the Bexar County Jail Annex tried to escape through an emergency exit door...

Genevieve Golden, 38, is accused of trying to escape the Bexar County Jail Annex early Saturday morning.SAN ANTONIO — An inmate at the Bexar County Jail Annex tried to escape through an emergency exit door, but the early Saturday morning attempt was thwarted by a detention officer, according to a news release from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Genevieve Golden, 38, waited to attempt her escape until after a detention officer completed face-to-face observation checks shortly after 1 a.m., according to the release. When the officer went back to her station, Golden ran to the back of the unit of the annex, breached an emergency exit door and ran out of her unit, the sheriff’s office reported.

The detention officer saw Golden damaging the door and ran after her, catching up to Golden and detaining her before she got beyond the secured perimeter, the release stated. The sheriff’s office said Golden, who has been transferred to a lockdown unit, now faces an escape charge. She was being held on a charge of arson, a first-degree felony.

BSCO’s criminal investigations division is investigating the escape attempt. Internal affairs and the public integrity units also will investigate.
