'Halloween is my favorite holiday. ... I think this is what the community needs in a way.”
The Ducci family saw the Broadway play “Beetlejuice” at Christmastime last year and loved it — so much so that it inspired a front yard Halloween display with the slightly scary, but mostly comedic characters from the show, based on the 1988 hit film.
Beetlejuice is the only animated character, spitting out classic one-liners from the film like “I’ve seen the Exorcist 167 times — and it keeps getting funnier every single time I see it!”, “It’s showtime!” and “That is why I won’t do two shows a night anymore, babe.”“I decided to become creative because you can’t buy every character at the store,” Ducci said. “Some things I was able to buy and some I had to make, like Miss Argentina.
“It was tough to get it done,” said Ducci, who’s an accountant when she’s not creating Halloween magic.“All throughout the day we have people coming and taking pictures,” she said. “The other day the Amazon guy rang my doorbell and asked me if he could take a picture. He said it was his favorite movie growing up. ... All hours from morning to night, we get people coming by in cars, stopping to take pictures.
“I think there was something missing,” she said. “ used to have this house that used to do ‘Nightmare on 16th Street’ that everyone went to visit. We were missing that as a community and I thought ‘Let me do it.’ Halloween is my favorite holiday. ... I think this is what the community needs in a way.”
