Fort Bend County’s Behind the Badge Charities, which offers scholarships for children...

Each year, the nonprofit group awards scholarships to deserving children of first responders.Behind the Badge Charities’ main fundraiser is the annual Boots and Badges Gala, which will be Saturday, Feb. 11 at Safari Texas Ranch in Richmond.

Recipients will receive scholarships valued at $2,000. Twenty-five scholarships were given out in 2022. Scholarship eligibility is limited to high school seniors or current college students whose parent or legal guardian is a current or honorably retired peace officer, reserve peace officer, correctional officer, probation officer, emergency medical technician or paramedic, firefighter or 9-1-1 dispatcher serving with a governmental or volunteer emergency response agency within Fort Bend County.

Past scholarship recipients are also eligible to reapply for a scholarship for up to four years while meeting all other eligibility criteria. Founded on Jan. 5, 2011, Behind the Badge has board members who volunteer to serve the more than 2,500 first responders in the county. The organization has provided more than $500,000 in assistance and [email protected]
