Contents of police interviews were read to the jury
A woman arrested on suspicion of murdering her baby son and trying to kill her daughter told police “I feel like a monster and I don’t deserve to live”, a jury heard today .
The jury has already heard that whilst the eight-week old baby died from two knife wounds, his two-year old sister underwent medical treatment and made a full recovery from a single stab wound to her chest. The five men and seven women of the jury were told a total of five police interviews were conducted with the accused, during which she said she stabbed her children - but said “everything is because of him” .
The accused said she had a smoke then “went back to the kitchen, took the knife and stabbed him. I then took from the corner sofa. I tried to kill her too but I couldn’t do it. I just hurt her then I tried to kill myself too”. Reiterating that she failed in her first attempt to stab her son, she said: “I went to the kitchen, I took the knife, I went to . He turned his face to me like he was smiling at me. He turned his little head around to me and he smiled at me and I couldn’t do it.”
