The Last of Us star, Bella Ramsey, recently compared the upcoming HBO adaptation's zombies with that of those in Game of Thrones. Ramsey made her television acting debut as the young Lyanna Mormont on the fifth season of HBO's wildly popular fantasy drama, Game of Thrones. She can next be seen as 14-year-old orphan Ellie in the upcoming zombie horror series, The Last of Us, based on the award-winning 2013 PlayStation 3 video game of the same name.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY While speaking with IGN, Ramsey compared The Last of Us' zombies to those in Game of Thrones. Seated alongside co-star Pedro Pascal, who also starred in Game of Thrones, Ramsey recalled the different experiences with the two productions, detailing Lyanna's death scene by a giant wight. Where the VFX-heavy fantasy series had her working with green screen, The Last of Us primarily used practical effects.
Ramsey: But that was all green screen for me. On Game of Thrones, I was in a massive 20-foot claw of green. Whereas The Last of Us it was very immersive and --Ramsey: Yes! Due to the fungal origins of The Last of Us virus, the infected begin to sprout growths from the body, starting from the brain. The various stages of infection result in differing behavior as the fungus grows within the body. A Clicker is the most iconic infected stage which sees the host blinded by the fungal growth, leaving them to use echolocation through clicking noises for navigation.
The Game of Thrones' approach to zombies, on the other hand, is far more traditional than The Last of Us. White Walkers, an ancient race of former-human ice creatures, use magic to turn the dead into zombies called wights, with their decaying bodies resembling the classic George A. Romero zombie aesthetic of the past, with some wights looking skeletal.
