The Grange Road Lights show in Sandringham, a popular Christmas event that raises money for charity, has been cancelled this year. Organisers cited excessive paperwork and traffic management requirements from the local Bayside Council as the reason for the cancellation.
A local fundraiser has been shelved after organisers said they were overwhelmed by council paperwork.
But the organiser Michael said this year's event would not go ahead due to the high costs of running the event, exacerbated by additional requirements from his local council. Michael said while organisers and volunteers spent hours putting bollards out to manage traffic, further paperwork was required to manage the event.
"This year, the organiser also proposed changes to parking restrictions along Grange Road that required consultation with neighbours," she said.
