The Anfield rising star was the stand-out performer in the 3-1 win over Hungary.
Brilliant Ben Doak gave the watching Steve Clarke food for thought as Scotland U21s lit a fuse under their Euro qualifying campaign with a 3-1 win over Hungary.
The Liverpool ace netted his first U21 goal from the penalty spot to settle matters after Bowie’s early brace. Whether Doak - who was taken off after 61 minutes of running Hungary ragged - will be promoted to the top team before Tuesday remains to be seen. But on this evidence a call-up can’t be far off for the kid that’s already fast-tracked his way into Jurgen Klopp’s star-studded side at Anfield.
Scotland streaked ahead inside 90 seconds with a piece of individual brilliance from Bowie. The on-loan Northampton forward took a pass from Leon King inside his own half and just kept running, brushing off three Hungarians as he stormed into the box and fired low across Krisztián Hegyi for his second goal at U21 level.
It was Doak catching the eye though and after his quick feet took three visiting defenders out the game the Liverpool youngster stung the keeper’s palms with a rasping 20 yarder on the half hour mark. Moments later the 17-year-old was at it again, bombing into the box before bamboozling Barna Benczenleitner into scything him down for a stonewall spot kick.
